A petition has been submitted to the Supreme Court requesting an order rejecting the nomination of former Member of Parliament Ranjan Ramanayake. He had submitted nominations from the United Democratic Voice organization for the Gampaha district for the upcoming general election.
It is reported that this petition has been submitted by K.M. Mahinda Senanayake who is running as an independent group candidate from Gampaha district for this year’s parliamentary elections.
In the relevant petition, the petitioner has requested a ruling that Mr. Ranjan Ramanayake is not entitled to sit and vote in Parliament.
The Election Commission and its members, Mr. Ranjan Ramanayake, Gampaha District Returning Officer and others were named as respondents in this petition.
