A case from BASL over misuse of presidential pardon

The Bar Association of Sri Lanka has written to President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, informing him that it will take necessary legal action regarding the incident of the illegal use of presidential amnesty and the release of a prisoner from the Anuradhapura Prison.

The letter has urged the government to conduct a full and impartial investigation into the illegal release of prisoners. It has also emphasized that all parties responsible for this incident should be identified and necessary disciplinary or legal action should be taken against the perpetrators.

The letter has also urged the President to strengthen the transparency and accountability of the operations of the Prisons Department by focusing on institutional reforms.

The Bar Association has expressed its full support to the President, the Ministry of Justice and other relevant authorities in pursuing legal proceedings.
