A Buddhist monk misled the cardinals

Colombo Archbishop Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith says that he informed former President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa not to appoint President’s Lawyer Ali Sabri as the Minister of Justice in his cabinet, following the advice of a Buddhist monk.

“At first we were worried about this appointment because we thought that the Easter Sunday attack was carried out by some religious group that could influence Sabri. But after learning that there is another conspiracy behind this attack, we changed our position,” Cardinal added.

He emphasizes that after a sub-committee was appointed to re-examine the report of the Presidential Commission that looked into the Easter Sunday attack, his trust in former President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa was completely broken.

Commenting on Christmas, he said that it is his aim to spend Christmas with the poor by giving them a meal, and he asked all Catholics to do the same.
