It is reported that two more bodies have been recovered from the debris of the landslide that occurred in the Ganethenna area of Lower Kadugannawa. Accordingly, the death toll from this landslide has increased to 06 so far.
Also, 05 people were hospitalized after sustaining injuries in the accident. It has been decided to suspend search operations at the relevant location.
The accident occurred when a large rock and a mound of earth collapsed on a house and a roti shop located in the Lower Kadugannawa area on the Colombo-Kandy main road at around 8.45 am today (22).
The accident occurred when a large rock from below the railway track, along with several other rocks, fell on the house and shop, and a great effort was made by the police, army, local residents and health departments to rescue the people trapped in the shop.
Meanwhile, the section of the Colombo-Kandy road between Mawanella and Pahala Kadugannawa, which was temporarily closed following the accident, will be closed until tomorrow, said Kegalle District Secretary Jagath M. Herath.
