500 crores of assets confiscated.

According to the Minister of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs, Ananda Wijepala, since January this year, nearly 500 crores of assets illegally acquired by organized criminals have been temporarily frozen.

This amount is 4,529,781,238.41 rupees. The Minister further stated that these assets include properties belonging to politicians.

In accordance with the powers granted by the ‘Forfeiture of Assets Acquired by Crime Act’ recently passed in Parliament, investigations into the assets of criminals are continuing.

Under this new Act, steps have already been taken to establish a special unit under a Deputy Inspector General of Police and to establish an authority for the custody of the assets of criminals.
