5 people including an 11-day-old baby die in road accidents.

Five people including an 11-day-old baby and a school student have died in 05 road accidents that occurred in several areas. These accidents occurred yesterday (20) in the Weerawila, Puttalam, Weliweriya, Pudukudiyirippu and Polgahawela police divisions.

An accident has occurred in the Thurusewana area on the Hambantota – Weerawila road when a lorry collided with a three-wheeler that was moving in front of it.

Police say that a mother, father, child and a baby from the same family who were traveling in the three-wheeler have been admitted to the Tissamaharama Hospital and the baby has died while receiving treatment.

The deceased was an 11-day-old baby girl from Tissamaharama, Thiyammagama.

Meanwhile, an accident occurred near the Nainadeniya junction on the Yangalmodara-Narammala road when the rider lost control of a motorcycle and collided with another motorcycle traveling in the same direction.

The two riders were injured in the accident and were admitted to the Kurunegala Hospital for further treatment, while one of the riders died.

The deceased was a 16-year-old school student from the Yatigaloluwa area.

Meanwhile, a lorry collided with a motorcycle near the Palaviya junction on the Puttalam-Colombo road.

The police say that the motorcyclist and the pillion rider were injured in the accident and the rider died while being admitted to the Puttalam hospital.

The deceased is a 35-year-old youth from the Madurankuliya area.

Meanwhile, an accident has occurred near the Vellampalam junction on the Mullaitivu – Paranthan road when a motorcycle collided with another motorcycle that had entered the main road from a side road.

The rider of one of the motorcycles was injured in the accident and died on admission to the Munkilaru Hospital.

The deceased is a 26-year-old youth residing in the Kuruvil area.

Meanwhile, a van has collided with a woman crossing the road near the Jayanthi Mawatha junction on the New Kandy road in the Weliweriya police division.

The woman who was injured in the accident has died on admission to the Gampaha hospital, according to the police.

The deceased is a 68-year-old woman residing in the Weliweriya area.
