3575 Sri Lankans have gone to Israel for work.

77 job seekers who got jobs in the construction sector in Israel left for Israel on November 18, and the presentation of flight tickets to them took place at the Foreign Employment Bureau auditorium under the patronage of the Bureau Chairman Kosala Wickramasinghe.

Another 152 people are preparing to leave for construction jobs in Israel during the month of November, and another 464 are preparing to go to Israel during the first week of December.

In addition to this group, another 252 people have left this year, and another 34 are preparing to leave for Israel, according to Foreign Employment Bureau sources. It is stated that these people have got jobs in the infrastructure sector, a sub-sector of employment under the construction sector.

Former Minister Manusha Nanayakkara, Minister of Labor and Foreign Employment, directly intervened to secure Israeli job opportunities for Sri Lanka. Especially with the attacks on Israel by Hamas, a large number of workers from Arab and other Islamic countries who were in Israel fled to their countries, creating a large number of jobs in the country. The former Minister tried to secure more of those job opportunities for the country. Accordingly, a large number of Sri Lankans were granted Israeli job opportunities.

Central Bank reports have confirmed that among Sri Lankans living abroad, the largest amount of foreign remittances to Sri Lanka are sent by Sri Lankans in Israel.

According to the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the Government of Israel and the Government of Sri Lanka, 3,575 Sri Lankans have been provided with employment opportunities in the construction sector in Israel by 2025.
