The minister revealed that 30% of people over 35 years of age in Sri Lanka suffer from high blood pressure and 15% of that age group suffer from diabetes. The minister further revealed that while 10 percent of children in Sri Lanka are suffering from obesity, diabetes is also increasing among children.
Road and domestic accidents have become a major health problem in Sri Lanka and one million of the total 6 million hospital admissions are due to accidents, Health Minister Ramesh Pathirana said in Parliament today.
The minister revealed that in Sri Lanka, about 30 people die every day due to road accidents and 12,000 people die annually due to road and domestic accidents.
