D. J. Rajakaruna, Chairman of the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation, states that there is currently no fuel shortage in the country and that the Corporation holds sufficient stocks of fuel.
Addressing the matter of fuel reserves, he noted that while some companies may be experiencing a reduction in fuel distribution, the Petroleum Corporation continues to distribute fuel in adequate quantities. “There is no fuel shortage in the country. We have ample fuel reserves, and fuel is being distributed. The issue has arisen because private companies have reduced their fuel distribution to some extent, citing losses. Consequently, queues form in areas where there is no nearby CEYPETCO (CPC) filling station. That is the core of the problem.
Fifty-two such locations, where no CEYPETCO filling station is available nearby, have been identified. During a discussion convened by the Secretary with all the companies involved, they agreed to prioritize these locations.
