Litro Gas states that it is in a position to release three million domestic gas cylinders into the market for the month of November.
Janaka Pathirathna, the company’s Director of Sales, Marketing, and Corporate Relations, stated that by releasing the necessary volume of gas including supplies for all commercial customers the total market demand can be met.
He noted that the total monthly requirement is approximately 38,000 metric tons comprising 32,000 metric tons for Litro Gas and 6,000 metric tons for the competing company. Taking current demand into account, an order for 44,000 metric tons for the month of November has been placed and confirmed through ‘Geo Gas’. Furthermore, the Director stated that the vessel ‘Goodwill’, carrying 3,900 metric tons of gas, is currently undergoing unloading operations.
He also mentioned that another vessel, ‘Quarantine’ carrying an additional 3,900 metric tons of gas—is scheduled to arrive in the country today (01).
Consequently, gas distribution in the Colombo area is expected to return to normal by this afternoon (31), while distribution in other regions is anticipated to resume as usual by tomorrow (01). However, market sources indicate that the gas shortage, which has persisted for several weeks, remains unchanged.
