The Aruna newspaper reports, citing Ajith Wijemanna, Director General of the Department of Meteorology, that the Department was never consulted regarding the decision to keep schools across the island closed yesterday (27).
According to the report, he stated that the Department of Meteorology provided no advice nor were there any discussions held regarding the operation of schools in light of the prevailing weather conditions.
The Department of Meteorology notes that as Cyclone ‘Ornab’ moves gradually toward India, its impact on Sri Lanka is progressively diminishing.
