The Department of Meteorology has announced that an atmospheric disturbance in the vicinity of Sri Lanka has developed into a low-pressure area.
Due to the influence of this low-pressure system, rainfall is expected to increase today (22) across the entire island, as well as in the deep and shallow sea areas surrounding it.
The public—including the fishing and naval communities—is advised to remain attentive to future forecasts and announcements issued by the Department of Meteorology.
Intermittent rain or thundershowers are expected in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Southern, and North-Western provinces, as well as in the Mannar District, with generally cloudy skies prevailing in these areas. In other parts of the island, rain or thundershowers may occur after 1:00 PM.
Heavy rainfall, exceeding 100 mm, is possible in some locations within the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and North-Western provinces. The public is kindly requested to take necessary precautions to minimize risks from lightning and temporary strong winds that may accompany thundershowers.
