Protests continue near the Presidential Secretariat, calling for the release of Gnanasara Thero.

A protest, which began in front of the Presidential Secretariat at Galle Face following a march from Kandy demanding the release of the monk Galagodaatte Gnanasara, is still ongoing. As discussions held yesterday with officials from the Presidential Secretariat concluded without reaching an agreement, the protest continues today.

It is reported that representatives of the monks participating in the protest held discussions with the Secretary to the President, who indicated that the government requires more time to consider their demands.

However, the discussions ended without an agreement on a specific timeframe for reaching a decision, prompting the protesters to continue their agitation.

Meanwhile, a tense situation arose in front of the Presidential Secretariat after the protesters erected a temporary tent on Galle Road. Following a police directive to remove the structure, the protesters relocated it to the side of the road.
