Shiranthi Remanded Until October 16.

The Colombo Magistrate’s Court today (13) ordered that former First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa be further remanded until October 16 in connection with investigations into the ‘Siriliya Saviya’ account.

When the case was taken up today, lawyers representing Shiranthi Rajapaksa submitted that she was due to undergo open-heart surgery; however, a medical report obtained by the court from the National Hospital stated that no such surgery had been performed or even planned.

Former First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa had been remanded on October 7 after being arrested and produced before the court by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption regarding alleged irregularities involving the ‘Siriliya Saviya’ account. Meanwhile, Shiranthi Rajapaksa was admitted to the Cardiology Unit of the National Hospital of Colombo yesterday (12) afternoon, following a medical recommendation from prison authorities. She currently remains hospitalized.
