The Department of Meteorology states that there is a possibility of a low-pressure area forming over the southeastern Bay of Bengal today (13). A statement issued by the Department indicates that, due to the influence of this system, an increase in rainfall is expected over the island and in the deep and shallow sea areas surrounding it over the coming days.
Accordingly, the public—including the fishing and naval communities—is urged to remain attentive to future forecasts and announcements issued by the Department of Meteorology.
Showers or thundershowers may occur intermittently across many parts of the island; heavy rainfall of approximately 100–150 mm is possible in some areas of the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Uva, and Southern provinces. Fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 75 mm is expected in some locations across the rest of the island.
