A recent audit report has revealed that the Road Development Authority (RDA) lost revenue amounting to Rs. 4,614 million due to irregularities in the issuance of expressway tickets over a period of four years and nine months, spanning from November 2019 to July 2024.
The audit disclosed that while over 133.8 million entry tickets were issued during this period, exit tickets were not issued for more than 18.2 million vehicles. The report indicates that this practice resulted in a daily revenue loss of nearly one million rupees for the RDA.
Furthermore, it is reported that the fraud was facilitated by misrepresenting vehicle categories. The audit report revealed that approximately 241,964 tickets were issued with altered vehicle classifications.
However, the report notes that the expressway management has failed to identify the staff members—including cashiers—responsible for this fraud, take disciplinary action against them, or implement measures to prevent such irregularities.
