Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama has issued a warrant for the arrest and production of former Minister Wimal Weerawansa before the court.
This warrant was issued due to his failure to appear in court for a case concerning a protest held near the United Nations office in Thummulla, Colombo, in 2016, which was staged to oppose the visit of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights to Sri Lanka.
The case was filed by the Cinnamon Gardens Police regarding the obstruction of public transport and the blocking of roads around the UN office in Colombo during Prince Zeid Al Hussein’s visit to Sri Lanka in 2016.
