A special meeting, presided over by Inspector General of Police (IGP) Priyantha Weerasuriya, was held to convey best wishes for the future to Senior Deputy Inspector General (SDIG) Dr. Ajith Rohana (Attorney-at-Law), who has retired after 38 years of service in the police force. It is reported that family members of Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police Ajith Rohana also attended the ceremony held yesterday (18) at Police Headquarters.
Born on September 11, 1966, Ajith Rohana received his primary education at Kanampalla Junior School and his higher education at Ananda College, Colombo. He subsequently joined the Sri Lanka Police service directly as a Sub-Inspector on March 15, 1988, commencing his duties with his first appointment at the Tissamaharama Police Station.
After serving at the Lunugamvehera and Waduramba police stations, he was promoted to the rank of Inspector of Police while serving as the Officer-in-Charge (OIC) of the Angunukolapelessa and Walasmulla police stations.
Having passed the competitive examination for promotion to the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police in 1999, he also participated in United Nations peacekeeping missions in Sudan in 2005 and Haiti in 2010. After being promoted to the rank of Superintendent of Police in 2007—while serving as the Director of the Police Headquarters Examinations Division—he obtained a Bachelor of Laws degree from the Open University of Sri Lanka, passed the final examination at the Law College, and was sworn in as an Attorney-at-Law of the Supreme Court.
Mr. Ajith Rohana, who was promoted to the rank of Senior Superintendent of Police in 2012 and Deputy Inspector General of Police in 2016, was promoted to the rank of Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police on June 30, 2021.
Throughout his long career, he has held numerous responsible positions, including that of Police Media Spokesperson.
