Saudi Arabia sentences another Sri Lankan to death

It is reported that a Sri Lankan national named Sivarasa Anojan, a resident of the Ampara area working in Saudi Arabia, has been sentenced to death over an incident involving alleged insults directed at the Holy Prophet.

Following his arrest by local police in connection with this incident, he was initially sentenced to five years in prison and fined 3 million Saudi Riyals. However, Batticaloa District Member of Parliament Shanakiyan Rasamanickam states that, following an appeal lodged by the Sri Lankan government, the prison sentence was increased to a death sentence; he adds that it is necessary to investigate whether issues regarding the manner in which the appeal was filed contributed to this outcome.
