Political sources indicate that Basil Rajapaksa, currently in the United States, has requested to renounce his Sri Lankan citizenship, while steps are being taken for Sri Lanka to request the US government to deport him. However, it is reported that Sri Lanka has yet to respond to his request regarding the renunciation of citizenship.
Meanwhile, it has been learned that the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has requested Interpol to issue a ‘Blue Notice’ for former Minister Basil Rajapaksa. This request relates to allegations concerning the misappropriation of funds from the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau.
