It is reported that veteran film actor Gamini Fonseka’s son Damith Fonseka and two others were arrested by Sigiriya Wildlife officials today (29) on suspicion of digging a well and felling trees on private land in the Sigiriya Sanctuary without obtaining permission from the Wildlife Department.
The Sigiriya Wildlife Office says that the raid was carried out based on intelligence information received by the Sigiriya Wildlife officials and that they have seized a backhoe used to dig the well, a lorry, logs of cut trees and a tractor.
The suspects who were arrested have now been released on bail. They are scheduled to be produced before the Dambulla Magistrate’s Court on the 31st.
