Former cricketer Tillakaratne Dilshan has filed a complaint with the Central Criminal Investigation Bureau against several social media activists.
In this complaint, he claims that false and defamatory propaganda is being spread on social media networks, linking him to a large-scale drug trafficker who is in custody.
Speaking to the media after filing the complaint, he stated that a group of people operating social media are causing serious damage to his reputation with the aim of increasing user views.
He said that he was not involved in any improper financial transaction or illegal activity and that he would be filing this complaint against Venerable Rajangane Saddharathana Thero, Keerthi Ratnayake and a group of others due to these allegations.
“A person named Keerthi Ratnayake and a Thero claiming to be Venerable Rajangane are using my image and severely insulting me through social media in a way that damages my reputation. I have played for the country for twenty years. I cannot be insulted in this way after having brought honor to the country. My daughter currently represents the under-19 women’s cricket team. Such false propaganda is having a severe psychological impact on my children.
I am a 100% innocent person. That is why I filed this complaint with the Central Crime Investigation Bureau today. I am already in discussions with my lawyers to take legal action regarding the huge damage done to my name,” he said.
