The Paddy Marketing Board has purchased 33,666 metric tons of paddy so far under its paddy purchasing process, said its Chairman Manjula Pinnalanda. Out of which, the largest paddy harvest stock has been purchased from the Ampara and Batticaloa districts.
The Paddy Marketing Board began the paddy purchasing process from June 13th. Paddy harvesting has been completed in most areas by now, but paddy harvesting has already begun in areas such as Polonnaruwa, Anuradhapura, Kurunegala and Puttalam. He also said that steps have been taken to open paddy warehouses in those areas.
He stated that nearly 120 warehouses are currently being maintained for paddy purchase.
