Bangladesh PM will not visit India until Sheikh Hasina is deported.

Foreign media reports that Bangladesh has already officially informed India that former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who is currently seeking asylum in India, should be immediately deported to Bangladesh if Prime Minister Tariq Rahman’s planned visit to India is to take place.

The former Bangladeshi prime minister, who fled during public protests in 2024, is currently under the protection of the Indian government. She has been sentenced to death by a Bangladeshi court on charges of crimes against humanity.

India had previously said that Bangladesh’s request was “under consideration”, but has so far responded to it.

The Bangladeshi prime minister has visited Malaysia and China, breaking with the tradition of many South Asian heads of state making their first foreign visit to India. Political analysts suggest that India is likely to take this situation and Bangladesh’s demand for the extradition of the former prime minister seriously.
