There is no tsunami threat to Sri Lanka from the earthquake in Indonesia.

The death toll from the strong earthquake that struck Indonesia this morning has now risen to 5 and the number may rise further, according to foreign media reports.

This earthquake, measuring 7.7 on the Richter scale, occurred near the central archipelago of Indonesia at around 3.28 am this morning.

According to Indonesian media reports, 3 aftershocks have been reported following the main earthquake. The country’s national geological agency also issued a tsunami warning after this series of earthquakes.

The Meteorological Department has issued a statement saying that the tsunami warning issued after this earthquake that affected Indonesia is not relevant to Sri Lanka.
