A powerful drug trafficker named “Shiran Basik”, who was arrested in Dubai, was brought to the island tonight (14), airport sources said. He is believed to be one of the five major large-scale drug traffickers operating the country’s drug network.
The suspects were brought to the Katunayake Airport from Abu Dhabi at 08:48 tonight on Air Arabia flight 3.L.- 708. It is reported that two other suspected underworld gang members were also brought to the country with him.
Shiran Basik, a 48-year-old resident of Kalubowila, Dehiwala, is a red warrant issued by the International Criminal Police Organization. Shiran Basik had visited the United Arab Emirates in 2018.
He was arrested by the country’s security forces while he was carrying photos and videos of drones and missiles used by Iran to attack the United Arab Emirates during the recent Iran-US war. It is reported that the US had also requested that he be handed over to the country for investigation.
Police sources also said that he had been hiding in Dubai as a tycoon.
