Flooding in low-lying areas along the Mahaweli River.

The Department of Irrigation announces that there is a risk of flooding in several low-lying areas along the Mahaweli River within the next 24 hours due to the prevailing rainy weather. This announcement, issued early this morning (03), is valid until 12.30 midnight tomorrow (04).

This warning notice applies to the low-lying areas of the Mahaweli River Basin in the following Divisional Secretariat Divisions: Udunuwara, Udapalatha, Yatinuwara, Gangaihala Korala, Pasbage Korala and Gangawata Korala.

The Department of Irrigation has advised the public living near the Mahaweli River and in low-lying areas in those areas to be vigilant and to take necessary precautionary measures to protect themselves from possible flooding due to the rising water level.

The Department of Irrigation also states that the public should be vigilant regarding the rising water level as the rainfall conditions may increase further in the coming period.
