Eight suspects have been identified in connection with the murder of a Chinese national who came to Sri Lanka on a tourist and business visa, said Police Media Spokesperson F.U. Wutler.
The Chinese Embassy and Interpol are fully supporting the investigation, and arrangements have been made to repatriate the body of the deceased to China through the Embassy, he said.
Out of the eight identified suspects, two Chinese nationals have been arrested at the Bandaranaike International Airport and produced before the court. They have been remanded until August 6th and are scheduled to be presented at an identification parade on that day, the Police Media Spokesperson said.
He said that three more Chinese suspects had fled the country immediately after the incident, and that operations are underway to find the other three suspects who are in Sri Lanka evading arrest, and that a travel ban has been obtained against them.
The police urge the public to immediately inform the nearest police station if they find suspicious foreigners renting out their homes, hotels or commercial buildings.
