A special general meeting of the Bar Association of Sri Lanka is scheduled to be held in Colombo today (29), said the President of the Association, Attorney-at-Law Rajeev Amarasuriya.
He stated that attention will be drawn to the steps to be taken against the government’s move to increase the retirement age of judges, and that the meeting will be held at the Bar Association of Sri Lanka at 11 am this morning.
Commenting on the special meeting to be held today, the President of the Bar Association of Sri Lanka said:
“This is not an issue concerning any individual or judge. This is a matter of great national importance regarding the independence of the judiciary, the principles of the Constitution and the protection of public trust. Such fundamental constitutional changes should be made through a broad public and stakeholder dialogue, transparency and in accordance with due process. Accordingly, the members of the Bar Association of Sri Lanka are cordially invited to participate in this general meeting at 11 am today to discuss this important national issue.”
