A new gazette for soaps.

The Consumer Affairs Authority has issued an extraordinary gazette notification making it mandatory for soap products sold in the country to clearly state the name and total fat content on their packaging.

This order has been issued in accordance with the powers conferred under Section 10(1)(a) of the Consumer Affairs Authority Act, No. 9 of 2003.

This order, issued under the signature of the Acting Chairman of the Consumer Affairs Authority, S.M.D. Suriyakumara, is scheduled to come into effect from July 09, 2027.

In recent times, many new soaps have entered the market under various brands, and consumers are complaining that some of them, both local and imported, do not have any information about the ingredients or percentage of fat content.

Although the well-known soaps in the country display this information correctly, it is said that the hope of introducing these new regulations is to control other soap products that are manufactured in small quantities and sold without regulation.

These regulations will definitely apply to the following types of soap: Baby Soap, Toilet Soap, Shaving Soap, Carbolic Soap, Laundry Soap, Laundry Soap, Soft Soap.
