Parliamentarian Chamara Sampath Dassanayake says that due to the President’s continuous extension of the current Army Commander’s term, many talented and senior officers in the army are losing the opportunity to become Army Commander.
Elaborating further, he said that he sees that there is some religious influence behind the appointments and decisions in the security forces today. He also said that today, the Army Commander, the Criminal Investigation Department, and everything is led by the Cardinal. He hinted that the next person to come after the current Army Commander will be a ‘Fernando’.
Expressing further views, Parliamentarian Chamara Sampath Dassanayake said:
“The term of the Army Commander ended on 07/02. It was extended earlier. Now they have asked for an extension again. Now who will appoint the Army Commander? On the 02nd, the current Army Commander took a big fruit basket. The man who made the fruit basket told me.
Now that Army Commander will be extended until January or February 2027. The next one to be extended is Major General Nilantha Premaratne. He is finished. Major General Udugama is gone. He is also gone. Major General Nalin Bandaranaike is going home. None of these people will have to hold the post of Army Commander even for a single day. These are people who have worked for this country. None of these people will ever get to be the Army Commander again. The monks will ask the next Army Commander to be a Fernando.”
