President’s Counsel Maithri Gunaratne says that although former presidents have been accused of interfering in the judiciary, none of them have kept vacancies without appointing court judges in this way.
He states that there is currently a shortage of 4 judges each in the Supreme Court and the Court of Appeal, and that judges in lower courts are waiting to go to the relevant positions.
Despite such a situation in the judiciary, the President is telling the public these days that politicians are going to jail and are preparing to eat milk and rice, and that suspicions are arising among the people that the relevant positions are being held to bribe judges in lower courts according to their decisions.
