A detainee who was transferred to Boossa Prison due to the unrest that erupted at Negombo Prison has died.
Prison Media Spokesperson A.C. Gajanayake said that the detainee died after being admitted to the Karapitiya Hospital in Galle due to a sudden illness.
Speaking in Parliament regarding the situation that has arisen at Negombo Prison, Minister of Justice and National Integration, Attorney-at-Law Harshana Nanayakkara stated that senior officers in all prisons across the island have been called for a special meeting at 7.30 am today (08).
The Minister said that attention will be paid to the conflict that occurred at Negombo Prison as well as the steps needed to prevent a similar situation from arising in other prisons.
