Despite maintaining an official Facebook page that regularly updates on his political activities, the social media network Facebook is “full of fools” and “not a place for intelligent people to debate,” the parliamentarian said. MP Dayasiri Jayasekara said.
Speaking at a press conference, he said that he would avoid the social media platform as he does not consider Facebook to be a space for meaningful discussions.
Pointing out that the government is trying to defame opposition politicians by branding them as criminals, racists, drug traffickers or corrupt, the MP said that it has been the government’s strategy to silence opposition political activists by attaching such false labels.
However, although MP Dayasiri Jayasekara says that he does not personally use Facebook, a public Facebook page containing videos, statements and information about his political activities, which is regularly updated, is in cyberspace.
