The annual bus fare revision carried out in accordance with the National Transport Policy will be implemented from today.
According to this fare revision, the National Transport Commission recently approved a percentage increase in bus fares from 12 percent to 20 percent.
Accordingly, the minimum bus fare, which was previously Rs. 30, is now Rs. 34, and simultaneously, the luxury bus fare and bus fare on expressways have also been increased.
The National Transport Commission says that bus workers have been informed about the new bus fare revision and have been instructed to update their ticket machines, and that inspections will be carried out islandwide from today.
However, the Chairman of the Lanka Private Bus Owners Association, Gemunu Wijeratne, stated that it will take another 2 days to update the ticket issuing machines.
