Two people have died in a clash that broke out between two groups of inmates at Negombo Prison today (05), prison sources say.
The clash broke out this afternoon. More than 25 inmates injured in the clash have been admitted to the Negombo Hospital. It is reported that 10 of the inmates who were admitted underwent surgery and two inmates who were in a serious condition were transferred to the Colombo National Hospital for further treatment. The remaining injured are receiving treatment as inpatients at the Negombo Hospital.
It is reported that a group of inmates in the prison also climbed onto a roof to protest. Prison sources say that the Police Special Task Force had to be called in to control the situation.
