The deceased woman’s boyfriend, his wife and a young child, who have been identified as the main suspect in the case of the body of a woman found inside a car in the Teldeniya area on the 17th, have been arrested in Jaffna, police sources say.
The arrests were made based on intelligence information received yesterday (23) while the suspects were travelling by bus from Wellawatte to Chavakachcheriya in Jaffna. The group was arrested by officers of the Jaffna Divisional Crime Investigation Bureau and the Walana Corruption Prevention Unit upon their arrival in Jaffna this morning (24).
The main suspect was reportedly wearing a face mask at the time of the arrest and his wife was disguised as a Muslim woman.
During interrogation, the suspect said that he had come to Kurunegala from Vavuniya to look after the other two children and was about to surrender to the police.
The suspects had been in Negombo and Chilaw for the past few days and were reportedly attempting to leave the country by sea. The suspects are to be handed over to the Nuwara Eliya Police for further investigation.
The woman who was murdered was a 35-year-old woman who was working as a physiotherapist at the Ampara Hospital. She was a resident of the Weligama area. This operation was carried out under the full supervision of the Director of the Walana Central Anti-Corruption Unit, Assistant Superintendent of Police Rohan Olugala.
