The US and Iran have called off talks scheduled to be held in Burgenstock, Switzerland, today (19), the BBC reports. The reason for the collapse of the talks is said to be the withdrawal of US Vice President J.D. Vance from the talks.
The US and Israel jointly launched attacks on Iran in February, and an agreement called the Islamabad Agreement was signed between Tehran and Washington to end the military situation in the Middle East region. The preliminary round of talks on the implementation of the agreement was scheduled to begin today, but the talks collapsed due to the absence of the US Vice President, according to a statement issued by the Swiss Foreign Ministry.
A White House statement has also been made to foreign media that steps have been taken to cancel the US Vice President.
Meanwhile, the US military announced on Thursday that US forces had taken steps to lift a naval blockade that had been preventing shipping from reaching Iranian ports.
Foreign media reports that there is still slow activity in the Strait of Hormuz, a vital narrow sea route that Iran has blocked during the conflict.
