Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S Bodaragama today (19) ordered the release of the current General Manager of Lanka Salt Company, R.M. Gunaratne, who was arrested by the Bribery Commission on a corruption charge.
The Colombo Chief Magistrate, who ordered the suspect to be released on bail on two surety bonds of Rs. 5 million each, also ordered a travel ban on the suspect.
The suspect has been arrested on charges of obtaining Lanka Salt packages for the Hambantota Salt Company through a counter-order without a proper procurement process, causing a loss of nearly Rs. 14.3 million to the government.
