Air Force to conduct separate investigation into Kalpitiya incident

The Air Force has reportedly decided to conduct a separate investigation into the heated situation that arose between the Sri Lanka Air Force and the police on the Kalpitiya beach.

The incident was reported during a bomb disposal exercise held at the Kalpitiya shooting range of the Sri Lanka Air Force on the 17th. The Sri Lanka Air Force said in a statement that three individuals had entered the safe area of the shooting range without prior permission or notice while the exercise was in progress.

Seven Air Force personnel and a Police Special Task Force (STF) officer on duty at the scene questioned the three civilians about their identities. It was confirmed that one of the individuals was a police officer and the other two were civilians who had accompanied the police officer.

However, a heated situation arose between the two parties during the interrogation.

During the bomb disposal exercise, the area has been designated as a restricted area for the general public, and the Sri Lanka Air Force has been entrusted with the responsibility and safety of all persons entering the area.

Accordingly, the Sri Lanka Air Force has taken necessary security measures to ensure personal safety and prevent dangerous situations.

The Commander of the Air Force has appointed a Special Investigation Board to conduct a special investigation into this incident and report on it.
