The Sri Lanka Railway Station Master’s Association says that less than 200 train journeys are currently running compared to the number of train journeys that were running daily before the Covid pandemic.
Kasun Chamara Jayasekara, General Secretary of the association, stated that before the Covid pandemic, more than 420 daily train journeys including mixed trains, general trains, oil transport trains and freight trains were running.
However, after the pandemic, the number was limited to about 350, and later it dropped to almost 250, he said.
Currently, the number of train journeys running daily has reduced to less than 200, and he alleges that even the trains that are running are not operating according to the scheduled schedules.
