Former Director of the State Intelligence Service (SIS), retired Major General Suresh Salle’s wife, S.B.M.S.B. Salle, has written to President Anura Kumara Dissanayake requesting his intervention to protect his fundamental rights, dignity and security.
In her letter, which was sent to the President last week, she has made several key demands.
In her letter, she has requested that he intervene to release her husband, who is currently in custody under the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
She further requests that if he cannot be released from custody, at least be transferred to a remand prison under judicial supervision.
She has alleged that Suresh Salle was subjected to torture and ill-treatment while in the custody of the Criminal Investigation Department and has requested the President to conduct an independent and impartial investigation into the matter.
She stated in her letter that she had written to the IGP and the Senior DIG in charge of the Criminal Investigation Department regarding this matter, but had not received any response. Therefore, she said that she had taken steps to write a letter directly to the President.
