Two constables attached to the Mount Lavinia Police Headquarters have been arrested by the Mount Lavinia Divisional Crime Investigation Bureau for allegedly assaulting a three-wheeler driver and robbing him of Rs. 380,000.
The two suspected constables were arrested on the 15th following a complaint received from a person in the Sayurupura Apartment Complex in Angulana, Moratuwa, that while he was driving a three-wheeler on the Ratmalana Airport Road, two unidentified persons on a motorcycle stopped the three-wheeler, assaulted him and robbed him of Rs. 380,000.
Police say that during extensive investigations conducted on the suspicion that the said money was fake money, it was revealed that the money belonged to a large-scale drug trafficker named Anju Kudu from Ratmalana who is involved in drug trafficking abroad and that the robbery had taken place while the complainant was transporting the said money.
When a woman resident of Samudrasanna Mawatha, Angulana, Moratuwa, who is said to have given the said money to the suspect complainant, was questioned in this regard, she also stated that it was fake money, but it could not be confirmed and that the said money was earned and transported through drug trafficking, the police say that the woman was also arrested. All the suspects are scheduled to be produced before the Mount Lavinia Magistrate’s Court.
