Organized criminal Manoj Suranga alias Batuwatte Chamara, who was arrested in Azerbaijan, was brought to the island last night (10), airport sources said.
He is a resident of Batuwatte, Ragama, who was arrested after fleeing to Azerbaijan about a year ago after hiding in Dubai for a long time.
The suspect has been charged with a number of organized crimes, including attacking Thusitha Halloluwa and providing a firearm for the murder of Ganemulla Sanjeewa. In addition, the police also call him a prime suspect in the drug distribution racket in the country.
The suspect has been taken from Katunayake Airport to the Colombo Crimes Division amid tight security arrangements.
