Kapila Chandrasena’s death suspicious. Police inform court.

The police have submitted the facts to the Fort Magistrate’s Court considering the death of Kapila Chandrasena, a former executive director of SriLankan Airlines, as a suspicious death.

This body was found this morning (08) in a house belonging to veteran cricketer Aravinda de Silva located on Pedris Road, Kollupitiya. According to the police ‘B’ report, the death occurred in a room on the second floor of the house.

When the body was found, it was in a position of sitting on the floor next to a chair with its head resting on the chair. Initial investigations have revealed that a belt was stuck in the bathroom door and that a piece of a broken belt was also found around the deceased’s neck.

An extensive investigation has been initiated to determine whether this death was a suicide or a crime.

The police requested the court to conduct a post-mortem examination before a panel of experts to confirm the exact cause of death. At the end of the examination, they have also requested that the body be released to the sister of his wife, Priyangi Anushka Wijenayake, for last rites. Kapila Chandrasena’s wife was currently abroad.
