The National Dengue Control Unit says that 25,082 dengue patients have been reported so far in 2026.
Community Medicine Specialist Prashila Samaraweera of the unit points out that patients have been reported mostly from the districts of Colombo, Gampaha, Matara, Galle, Ratnapura, Kalutara and the Colombo Municipal Council.
She also says that 12 people have died due to dengue so far.
If a person has a fever for more than 2 days, they should immediately see a doctor to confirm whether it is dengue. She urges that no medicine other than paracetamol be used for fever until medical advice is obtained, and that mosquito repellents be used to protect against mosquito bites.
