Deputy Minister of Defense Aruna Jayasekara said that seven members of a major criminal gang who were being held at the Boossa High Security Prison were transferred to the Welisara New Prison yesterday.
The group that has been transferred thus includes organized criminals Welesuda, Dematagoda Chaminda, Lokupeti, Midigama Ruwan, Backo Saman, Army Sampath, and Manna Ramesh.
It is reported that information has been received that inmates at the Boossa Prison are carrying out various rackets from the prison, and accordingly, this step has been taken considering the issues that may arise regarding their security.
The Welisara New Prison, which has been built at the Welisara Naval Base, has been built with special security arrangements. Its primary inmates are these organized criminals.
