A seven-year-old student of Lexicon International School in Kandy has died after being run over by a vehicle belonging to a member of the school’s board of directors. Police reports confirm that the accident occurred at around 11.30 am today (12) in the school premises.
The reports state that two school students who were drinking water were hit by the vehicle and one child died due to injuries sustained in the incident. The other student who was injured in the accident has been admitted to the Kandy National Hospital for treatment.
The owner of the vehicle, who is also a director of the school, said that the accident occurred after he stopped the vehicle and got out of it.
The driver of the vehicle has already been arrested by the police and the suspect is scheduled to be produced before the Kandy Magistrate’s Court tomorrow.
