With the increase in fuel prices, school bus fares have been increased by 5% effective today (10).
Addressing a media briefing, the Chairman of the All Ceylon School Bus Transport Association, Lalith Chandrasiri Fernando, said that despite the revision of fuel prices on several occasions, no change was made in the transport fares given the prevailing situation in the country.
However, he stated that since the price revision of Rs. 22 made yesterday, it is no longer possible to continue our services at the same old price, so this price revision has had to be made.
Speaking further, Lalith Chandrasiri Fernando said:
”When we woke up, the price of oil suddenly increased.. We, as a transport association, have taken a decision to increase the fares by 5%.. Accordingly, if the fare of a school child is Rs. 10,000, the fare will increase by Rs. 500…”
