Another accident at the Colombo Port on Thursday has reportedly claimed one life. A port supervisor was killed and another injured in the accident when a motorcycle collided with a crane, trade union sources confirmed.
Accordingly, the number of worker deaths due to accidents at the port this year has increased to three, the sources further said.
The London-based International Transport Workers’ Federation (ITWF) and its local affiliate, the National Seafarers’ Union, have expressed serious concern over the deaths, serious injuries and other accidents at the port.
The organization said this in a letter to the Ports Authority on February 15.
